Applicants Sought for Knight Journalism Fellowships
The International Center for Journalists is seeking outstanding applicants for its Knight International Journalism Fellowships program. Fellowships, which last for a minimum of one year, are currently available in Malawi, Indonesia, Malaysia and Zambia. Applicants should have strong leadership qualities, fluency in the local language of the host country, demonstrated knowledge of the project’s focus and medium, and a minimum of 10 years journalism experience. Training experience is a plus.
Current openings:
Africa Development Journalism Fellowships
Project focus: Development issues including agriculture, employment, microfinance and sanitation
Criteria: In-depth print and digital media experience
Countries/language requirement: Malawi (English)
Indonesia
Project focus: Launch a digital media association and create a code of ethics for professional and citizen journalists working online.
Criteria: Experience with digital media, demonstrated understanding of journalism ethics and solid journalism experience.
Language requirement: Fluent or proficiency in Bahasa Indonesian
Malaysia
Project focus: Integrate a citizen journalist network into a digital newsroom to create new Web content and features based on citizen reports and information.
Criteria: Experience in digital media reporting and editing, experience with digital media technology, experience in newsroom convergence, knowledge of or experience with citizen journalism and blogging, media-management experience.
Language requirement: Fluent in English, fluent in Chinese (recommended, not required)
Zambia
Project focus: Train journalists to produce penetrating coverage of health issues including HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Tuberculosis and hygiene. Help build networks of health journalists that connect with each other to develop sources and resources and serve as mentors for their colleagues. Help partner organization(s) improve business-management practices to make health coverage sustainable.
Criteria: In-depth health, print and digital media experience
Language requirement: English
