War-torn countries like Somalia, Sudan, Iraq and Afghanistan remain some of the world’s most corrupt, according to a new report released by Transparency International. The global civil society organization issued its world Corruption Perception Index 2009 yesterday. Among African countries, Nigeria stands out for falling nine positions, from 121st in 2008 to 130th this year. Research has found that corruption is the major disincentive to investments in the country. The ranking measures the perceived level of corruption in the public sector of 180 countries and territories around the world. It is based on 13 different expert and business surveys.
