Farming Boost For Mauritania
By Our Correspondent
The United Nation’s International Fund for Agricultural Development has announced a 12 million US dollar programme to increase food production in Mauritania and tackle the country’s dependency on food imports. The money will help local farmers in turning milk into butter and cheese, cleaning and packaging home-grown vegetables and adding commercial value to other raw products. By making these products more marketable, farmers will be able to sell them for higher prices. The programme is expected to directly benefit up to 9,500 households, according to the UN agency.
