Gabon To Recount Votes
The constitutional court of Gabon will today start recounting votes from last month’s disputed presidential election. The ruling was made after opposition candidates filed 11 complaints alleging the poll had been fixed. The recount will be done in the presence of representatives of the plaintiffs and is expected to last all night. Several people were killed in violent riots after the announcement of Ali Ben Bongo’s victory in early September. Bongo is the son of the late president of Gabon, Omar Bongo, who ruled the country for 41 years until his death in June.
