Kenya AIDS Non-Governmental Organizations Launch 2010-2014 Strategic Plan
The Kenya AIDS NGO’s Consortium, (KANCO) launched their new strategic plan for 2010-2014 on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 in Nairobi. At the event, KANCO were also formally welcomed as a Linking Organisation of the International HIV/AIDS Alliance. This brings the total number of organisations within the global partnership (including the Secretariat) to 33.
Alvaro Bermajo, Executive Director of the Alliance, and Beatrice Mutali, Head of Africa Team at the UK Secretariat, attended the event, along with community based organisations, government representatives and other partners of KANCO.
Speaking at the launch, Alvaro Bermajo said: ‘I am delighted that KANCO have joined the Alliance. The global partnership is already benefiting from your significant experience working with a wide range of community organisations.
‘In turn, the Alliance brings KANCO greater opportunities to learn from different strategies to tackle HIV/AIDS and TB in other parts of the world. One of the benefits of being part of the Alliance is the huge depth and breadth of experience we can share.’
Established in 1990, KANCO is a national membership network of 960 faith based, community based and non-governmental organisations who are responding to HIV and AIDS in Kenya.
At the event Allan Ragi, Executive Director and Mtana Lewa, Vice Chair of KANCO received their copy of the Alliance Charter from Alvaro Bermejo. The Charter is signed by all Linking Organisations when they join the global partnership and clearly describes the Alliance, how it works, what its values and commitments are, and how these will be honoured.
