Kenya to Circumcise 1Million Men
By Seyi Oduyela
The Kenyan government is currently expanding medical services in order to reach its target of circumcising at least 1.1 million men in the next five years, IRIN News has reported. Around 40,000 men have already had the operation following the launch of a national campaign for voluntary medical male circumcision in November last year. Government officials say demand for the procedure is growing. Kenya’s AIDS Indicator Survey from 2007 found that 85 per cent of Kenyan men were already circumcised and that HIV prevalence was three-to-five times higher in uncircumcised men.
