The UN Security Council has imposed sanctions on Eritrea for aiding insurgents in Ethiopia. The sanctions include arms embargos, travel bans and asset freezes on businesses and individuals. Eritrean officials have repeatedly denied the allegations. The resolution was backed by 13 of the 15 members of the UN Security council – China and Libya voted against. The resolution demands Eritrea to stop ‘arming, training and equipping armed groups and their members including al-Shabab’. The UN last imposed sanctions on Iran in 2006.
