Former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu believes Nigeria has been kidnapped by some of her leaders and it is time for Nigerians to respond and demand for change. “Enough is enough. The time has come for us to reclaim Nigeria from criminal leadership”. Speaking at the Change Nigeria Project forum held to discuss the way forward for Nigeria at 49 years at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, in Washington DC, Ribadu described Nigeria’s story as a tragic story at 49 due to irresponsible leadership. He said he feels the pain of Nigeria’s tragedy and the grief of a country in need of help.

“It is time for change and Nigerians at home and abroad must mobilize to force the hand of change. I am sick and tired of all that is happening to us, our country and we should all be sick and tired of being sick and tired. So let’s do something,”  he appealed.

At the same event to mark Nigeria at 49, Governor Fashola represented by Prof Adebayo Williams, the chairman of the Lagos State Electoral Reform Committee described Nigeria as a poster child for bad leadership and most of what is wrong with Africa. Prof. Williams said the country is in dire need of electoral reforms and Yar’Adua carries the burden of legitimacy because of the electoral fraud perpetrated in 2007. ‘The attitude of the government to electoral reforms is a monumental tragedy”.
